“Knights of the White Carnation” CH 3 & 4
from Mutual Friday Feb 28 & Monday March 03, 1947
#1173 & 1174 The head of the school board accuses
the suspended basketball players of being corrupt,
but Kent calls him out. The athletes are considered
"dirty little foreigners" by Vincent Kirby, the
leader of the Knights Of The White Carnation. Then
the coach is offered a bribe from a bookmaker to
keep the boys out of the game! Starring Bud Collyer
as Superman/Clark Kent, Jackie Kelk as Jimmy Olsen,
Julian Noa as Perry White, announcer Jackson Beck
(who doubles as Beanie and triples as Joe),
commercial spokesman Dan McCullough.

ANN OF THE AIRLANES was a syndicated
American radio adventure drama series broadcast
starting in 1932, but running in various markets
into the 1950s. The story focused on Ann Burton,
an aspiring airplane hostess portrayed by Lynne
Howard (possibly a stage name for Hollywood
native Elia Braca). She also worked with the
Secret Service, as did her romantic interest,
Interstate Airlines pilot Jack Baker (Robert
C. Bruce). Gerald Mohr portrayed Secret Service
agent and co-pilot Art Morrison. Also in the
cast was John Gibson who portrayed Pete. There
were more than a few radio aviation dramas
during the 1930s, but this was the only one
with a female lead. We'll begin with 2 un-
circulated episodes #3 & 4. Jack has been
drugged but Ann helps him escape. They track
the criminals and take off in their stolen plane!

TERRY AND THE PIRATES from the Blue
Network on Oct 19, 1944 for Quaker Puffed Wheat
Sparkies. Flip has been wounded and doesn't
recognize Burma, who is flying him to a hospital
in a seaplane. Meanwhile, on the river, Terry and
Pat use a machine gun to fight off the Japs. The
seaplane arrives just in time. Based on the comic
strip by Milton Caniff, theme vocals and ukulele
by Kelvin Keech. A Frank and Anne Hummert production.

JEAN SHEPHERD WOR-NY April 14, 1970
“Strange Tales of New York.” A woman lives with her
mother's skeleton. Shep, newly arrived in New York,
gets involved with a woman who works at the UN.
They go on a few dates, but it ends strangely.
Another friend has a lead on an apartment formerly
rented by a celebrity, but the doorman warns them
off. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of
men? Engineer Herb. Sponsor: Frank's Place for brunch.
